Content management

Everyone has the need to update their own site at a time and place of their choosing. A good website will always change, be updated with news, artworks, photos, products or services.

I’m fluent in several content management systems: ProcessWire, Textpattern and ExpressionEngine. Each has their pros and cons and it is entirely down to the nature of your site that will determine which system is the best fit.

For example if your site is a simple brochure-style site: ProcessWire. For a blog, Textpattern. For a site that requires any kind of member management, ExpressionEngine.

And a CMS is…?

A CMS (content management system) is an application that resides on your website. You use it to add/change the infomation on your site – like adding a news item or a piece to your portfolio. Gone are the days when you have to ring your designer to add these things to your site.

With a CMS you have much more control over the content as well as the metadata that search engines use to determine the value and importance of your site.
